Our 100% Polyester Base / 100% Rayon Pile Printed Velvet renders fine botanical and chinoiserie-style motifs — peonies, pheasants, trailing leaves — in crisp metallic linework against a rich, solid velvet ground. Because the base is polyester rather than silk, the fabric holds its shape and resists abrasion well beyond what a delicate apparel-only velvet can manage, which is why this construction works equally well as a statement fabric for garments and as a durable face fabric for upholstery and soft furnishings. At 180 GSM and a full 138 ± 2 cm (54.3”) usable width, it carries enough body to upholster cleanly while remaining fluid enough to drape, gather and twist for apparel use.

Unlike atmospheric silk-base prints, the polyester ground holds fine linework sharp and stable wash after wash, wear after wear — the metallic detail on the peony and pheasant motif stays legible instead of softening over time.

At 180 GSM, NYY5515 has enough structure to upholster cleanly over cushions and frames, yet still folds and gathers well enough for column dresses and statement separates — a dual-use range most velvets can’t cover.
Print Suitability
Because the polyester base holds ink crisply rather than letting it diffuse through the pile, this construction handles fine detail that a silk-base atmospheric print cannot:

For soft atmospheric color-blending effects instead, our silk-base printed velvets (e.g. NYY4181) are the better base — NYY5515’s strength is sharp, durable detail.

Full Technical Specifications
Care Instructions
- For garments: gentle machine wash, cold, in a mesh bag, or dry clean for best long-term pile definition. The polyester base is far more forgiving than a silk-base velvet.
- For upholstery/décor use: spot clean with a mild detergent and a soft brush; avoid saturating the backing.
- Do not iron directly on the pile. If needed, steam from the reverse side only, holding the iron away from the fabric.
- Hang or tumble dry on low heat; store hanging or loosely rolled rather than folded, to avoid permanent crease marks in the pile.
- Do not bleach.
