Our 100% Polyester Base / 100% Rayon Pile Layered Printed Velvet combines burnout (devoré) with layered print for painterly, weathered artwork rather than clean graphic prints. Fine scrollwork motifs are created by selectively removing the rayon pile to expose the sheer polyester ground beneath, while multiple layers of print color settle into the remaining pile at different depths, so the same motif reads softer from one angle and sharper from another as the fabric catches the light — from close range the print feels almost fragmented; from a distance, those fragments merge into a much richer composition. Because the burnout motif is kept small in scale, the fabric reads as opaque overall and needs no lining, even though each motif carries genuine sheer definition up close. At 180 GSM with 138±2 cm (54.3”) usable width, it has enough substance for shaped garments while remaining supple and easy to drape.

This construction rewards artwork that is allowed to break apart rather than reproduced cleanly — the print doesn’t just sit on the velvet, it interacts with the pile itself:
- Botanical Abstraction: plants and florals that don’t stay strictly illustrative, with edges breaking into the pile
- Painterly & Watercolor Artwork: layered washes, bleeding edges and tonal transitions
- Weathered Surfaces: faded frescoes, oxidized surfaces, patina and naturally eroded textures
- Abstract Landscapes & Layered Geometrics: motifs deliberately softened or partially obscured rather than kept perfectly sharp
We’d generally steer away from artwork that depends on very clean, crisp outlines — this fabric’s strength is in letting print and pile interfere with each other, not in reproducing an image exactly.

Care Instructions
- Dry cleaning is recommended to best preserve the pile texture and layered print definition.
- If machine washing is required, use cold water on a gentle cycle inside a mesh bag, and hang or lay flat to dry — do not wring.
- Do not iron directly on the pile. If needed, steam from the reverse side only.
- Store hanging or loosely rolled rather than folded, to avoid permanent crease marks in the pile.
- Do not bleach.
