Layered printing settles into the pile at different depths, so the same motif reads deep and shadowed from one angle and shifts into vivid jewel tones — cobalt, teal, emerald — from another as the fabric catches the light. At 180 GSM with a full 135 cm (53.1”) usable width, it carries enough body for column silhouettes while remaining fluid enough to drape, gather and twist without ever reading stiff.

✓ Color That Shifts With Light
The rayon pile has gentle resilience and catches light differently depending on direction — areas that read deep navy or near-black from one angle reveal vivid cobalt, teal and emerald from another, giving the surface a mineral-like, ever-changing quality.
✓ Fluid, Body-Following Drape
Despite its 180 GSM weight, the silk base lets NYY4181 fall into long, soft folds rather than bulk. As the fabric folds and twists on the body, pronounced light-and-shadow transitions develop along every crease — the drape itself becomes part of the print.
Print Suitability
This construction rewards color transition over precise outlines — multiple layers of print interact with the velvet pile itself, so artwork gains dimension it wouldn’t have on a flat surface:
- Atmospheric Abstraction: large areas of shifting color move beautifully through the pile, especially deep blues, greens, jewel tones and shadowed neutrals
- Watercolor & Ink Effects: soft bleeding edges and overlapping washes become more dimensional when interpreted through velvet
- Abstract Landscapes: clouds, water, night skies, forests, mineral formations and atmospheric scenes
- Botanical Abstraction: blurred foliage, oversized botanical forms and partially dissolved motifs rather than literal, illustrative flowers

We’d generally steer away from artwork built around fine linework as the central feature — the beauty of NYY4181 lies in color, atmosphere and movement, not sharp detail.

Care Instructions
- Dry cleaning is strongly recommended — the mulberry silk base is sensitive to water spotting, and professional care best preserves the pile and layered print definition.
- If hand washing is unavoidable, use cold water only with no agitation, and lay flat to dry immediately — never wring or twist the fabric.
- Do not iron directly on the pile. If needed, steam from the reverse side only, holding the iron away from the fabric.
- Store hanging or loosely rolled rather than folded, to avoid permanent crease marks in the pile.
- Do not bleach. Do not tumble dry.
